Review

First let's go over the episode. It wasn't amazing, but it was decent. Good would be appropriate here. The first half seemed like it tried too hard to make us feel something for Riki that really wasn't there. It may be hard to understand, but this was him getting over his narcolepsy. It felt rushed and was really just thrown at you. The ending however had me smiling like no tomorrow :D

First, after Riki found his resolve, they of course proceeded to save everyone, one by one. Seeing all the LB crew come out battered and bruised made me...feel something. Usually they're never like this - on the verge of death - and especially when they first saw Komari it was just like "KOMARI!!". They pulled a miracle, and saved everyone although there were injuries.

We were graced with a happy ending as well where everyone was back to their usual selves, albeit waiting for Kyousuke to make his triumphant return. When he did, it had me smiling ear to ear. The fun times that followed in the credits were just amazing. It totally made me forget everything that happened, but yet that's what strengthened their bond with each other. Every smiling = me smiling.

The series as a whole was good. Now, it's very hard to adapt this kind of visual novel and I'd like to say J.C. did the best job they could. A lot of scenes were left out, and even jumbled up but if you're an anime-only viewer, than you shouldn't have much to complain about. I know a lot of the die hard VN readers really didn't like the way this was done though.

Little Busters is all about friendship and the trials that come with it along with overcoming them. They are a group of friends with an inseparable bond who always have each other's backs. Each character has their own unique traits, yet each character is able to support one another. Their bond makes me jealous - to have the ultimate bros and the ultimate...sis'? GIRLS. If you're even lucky enough to have one friend like this, then consider yourself blessed. They have a whole "team" of people like this. The ultimate friends that anyone could ever ask for each with their own different personalities but yet they are the kindest of souls.

The animation and visuals of Refrain were a lot better than the first season, but there were times where the faces were ugly and distorted and whatnot. It didn't take away from the story at all though, as the visuals weren't the only thing this show had going for it. Personally, I would have preferred KyoAni doing the animation since well, I love their work and they've adapted all Key works they've done beautifully. J.C. however did a good enough job that I don't have many complaints.

The audio...oh man the audio. The OST's and Inserts that played during every key moment really acted like a button to turn on the feels. Not much to say about it but every piece was majestic and really hit me hard with feels. Haruta Kanata - beautiful. Every time that came on, I was ready to cry. Every melody I have on my iTunes haha.

The story was good. Good. It could have been presented in a way to make it great, but alas that didn't happen. The thing with visual novels is that there is an end to every character, usually involving romance, and then there is the true route. Obviously Riki didn't really end up with anyone which is actually key to progressing onto the true route and tying loose ends together. He did however end up with Rin which was the true route, but they don't clarify if they're still a romantic couple at the end of the show.

Characters were amazing. All of them. I love the Little Busters! They're always having fun and they always have that connection with each other. The contrasting characters, especially Masato and Kengo, were one of the best things of this show. Kyousuke was my favorite bro though. Nothing will beat his sheer awesomeness and willingness to do anything for the people he loves. Not to mention everyone's voice acting was superb.

All in all, I did find the series enjoyable. Not as enjoyable as the visual novel (which makes sense since there was no rush, and everything was paced out almost perfectly) but I didn't find myself hating this show. I know a lot of VN readers are super disappointed, but what can you do when you're trying to adapt a complicated story into one where it makes sense. It could have been better, but I'm satisfied with what we got. And with that ending, how could you not be smiling?! :D

Visuals: 7/10
Audio: 10/10
Story: 7/10
Characters: 10/10
Enjoyment: 8/10
Overall: 8.4/10

And with that comes and end to Little Busters! Refrain. It was a fun ride, tons of reminiscing to my VN days where I bawled my eyes out, and again, more love for the characters than ever before. Thanks for sticking with me through my very inconsistent reviews. Sometimes I just get too lazy >_>

Anywho, I'm thinking of covering the OVAs that will come out with the BDs that focus on 3 other girls - Sasasegawa Sasami, Kanata Futaki and Saya Tokido so until then, sayonara!
